Change your username

Your Kartra username is a unique identifier for your account. It is also used as the default subdomain for URLs associated with your published content, including pages, checkouts, tracking links, and other assets.

When you create a Kartra account, a random username is automatically assigned to you. You can change this username to something more recognizable for your business.

For example, if your username is mybusiness, a published page might have a URL like:

Keep in mind:

  • If you're setting up a new account, choose a username you want to keep before connecting custom domains or publishing content. Changing your username later may require you to reconnect domains, update DNS records, and replace existing links and embed codes.

  • If you have already published or shared content, changing your username can affect existing links, embedded assets, and connected custom domains. Review the precautions below before making the change.

Kartra provides a two-week transition period during which links and embed codes containing your old username redirect to your new username.

After this period, links using your old username will stop working.

If updating your existing links and integrations would be too disruptive, consider keeping your current username.

Change your Kartra username

To update your username:

  1. Click your profile picture in the top-right corner of your Kartra account.

  2. Select Profile.

  3. Click the pencil icon next to your current username.

Edit the account username in your profile
  4. Enter your new username.

  5. Answer your security question to authorize the change.

  6. Click Change.

  7. Review the warning about connected domains.

  8. Click Proceed to confirm the update.

Your new username must meet these requirements:

  • Contains between 3 and 16 characters.

  • Not contain special characters such as @, !, -, or #.

  • Be available for use.

If you are unsure whether you have connected domains, go to Settings > Domains to review your existing connections before proceeding.

Username changes generally take approximately 5–10 minutes to apply throughout your account. Larger accounts may take slightly longer.

Update your custom domains

If you have connected custom domains to your Kartra account, you may need to reconfigure them after changing your username.

For each connected domain:

  1. Go to Settings > Domains in Kartra.

  2. Delete the custom domain from your account.

  3. Wait approximately 10–15 minutes for the domain to clear.

  4. Open the DNS settings in your domain provider's account.

  5. Update or delete and replace the relevant CNAME records to use your new Kartra username.

  6. Return to Settings > Domains and reconnect the domain.

Review assets using your custom domains

When you remove a custom domain from Kartra, assets previously configured to use that domain may revert to their default Kartra URLs.

After reconnecting your domain:

  1. Review the pages and assets that previously used it.

  2. Check their published URLs.

  3. Test the updated links.

This may include pages, memberships, calendars, and other published assets.

Update shared links

Your default Kartra URLs contain your account username.

For example:

After changing your username, links containing the old username will redirect temporarily.

To prevent broken links after the two-week transition period, review and replace these URLs wherever they have been shared.

Common locations include:

  • Social media profiles and posts

  • Websites and blog articles

  • Emails and email templates

  • Documents and spreadsheets

  • Affiliate promotional materials

Review links to pages, memberships, calendars, media files, tracking links, and other Kartra-hosted content.

Update embedded assets

Some Kartra assets embedded on external websites use embed codes containing your account username.

These may include:

  • Product checkouts

  • Opt-in forms

  • Videos and video playlists

  • Surveys

  • Helpdesks

To check your embedded assets:

  1. Visit the external pages where your Kartra assets are embedded.

  2. Check whether each asset loads and functions correctly.

  3. If an asset displays an error, return to Kartra and copy its current embed code.

  4. Replace the outdated code on the external website.

  5. Save and test the page again.

Review these assets even if they continue working immediately after your username change, since the temporary redirect period may hide outdated links or embed codes.
