Automation rules allow you to create automatic workflows in your account based on a triggering event. These rules use IF/THEN logic to tell the system: IF something happens (the trigger), THEN do something else (the action). For example:
IF lead fills opt-in form THEN subscribe lead to list
Before you begin
Although they're named Basic and Advanced, the main difference is where the automation is created and what it's connected to:

Use Basic automations for individual assets
Basic automations are configured in the setup wizard for assets like products, forms, webinars, etc. Use them when the automations belong to a specific asset.
For example:
IF a contact fills this form, THEN add a tag.
IF someone buys this product, THEN unsubscribe them from a sequence.
IF someone registers for this webinar, THEN subscribe them to a mailing list.
To configure Basic automations:
Create or edit an asset
Go to the Automations tab
Create automation rules
Pro tip
You can quickly define the standard set of rules (adding tags, and subscribing to lists or sequences) without opening the Basic automations module.
You can also open the Basic automations module to create additional IF/THEN rules and refine them with AND conditions:

Use Advanced automation across your account
Advanced automations are created independently from any individual asset. Instead of belonging to a form, product, webinar, etc., it can respond to events across your entire account.
For example:
IF a contact subscribes to a list, THEN grant them access to a membership.
IF a customer reaches a specific membership level, THEN subscribe them to a training sequence.
IF a contact watches an entire webinar, THEN give them points AND grant them access to a membership
To configure Advanced automations:
Go to Marketing > Automations
Click the + Automation button
Set up your automation
Check your plan
Advanced automation is included with Kartra Growth, Professional, and Enterprise plans. Review or change your subscription in your account Billing.
