Change your subscription plan

You can upgrade or downgrade your Kartra subscription from the Billing section of your account.

Upgrading to a higher plan generally gives you access to additional features immediately, while downgrading schedules your move to a lower plan for your next billing cycle.

Available plan changes depend on your current subscription and billing frequency.

Upgrade your subscription

Upgrade your plan when you need additional features or higher usage limits.

To upgrade:

  1. Click your profile picture in the top-right corner of your Kartra dashboard

  2. Select Billing from the dropdown menu

  3. On the billing page, locate your preferred plan

    • Click the toggle in the top right to switch between monthly and annual options.

  4. Click Upgrade for the plan you want

    • Review the one-time upgrade charge displayed in the confirmation window.

  5. Confirm your choice and authorize the upgrade fee to complete the upgrade. You will be charged immediately after accepting this change.

Your new plan becomes active immediately after you complete the upgrade.

Upgrade charges and billing dates

When you upgrade to a higher plan:

  • You're charged immediately for the price difference between your current and new plan for the remaining days in your billing cycle. This is called a reconciliation charge.

  • The one-time charge is displayed before you confirm the change.

  • Your regular rebill date stays the same.

  • The full subscription price for your new plan is charged on your next rebill date.

This means you can start using the additional features of your upgraded plan without waiting for your next billing cycle.

Downgrade your subscription

Downgrade your plan when you no longer need the features or usage limits included in your current subscription.

To downgrade:

  1. Click your profile avatar in the top-right corner of your Kartra dashboard.

  2. Select Billing.

  3. Find the plan you want to downgrade to.

    • Use the billing toggle to select a monthly or annual option.

  4. Click Downgrade under your preferred plan.

  5. Review the terms and click Proceed to confirm.

Your downgrade is scheduled for your next rebill date.

Until then, you can continue using your current plan. When your existing billing cycle ends, your subscription changes to the lower plan, and your next payment reflects the new plan's price.

Changing your billing frequency

Kartra offers monthly and annual subscription options, but not every plan and billing-frequency combination can be selected directly from your account.

You can generally upgrade or downgrade between eligible plans with the same billing frequency:

  • Monthly plan to another monthly plan.

  • Annual plan to another annual plan.

Switching between monthly and annual billing may not always be available during the upgrade or downgrade process.

Use the billing toggle in Billing to review the available options for your account. If the change you want isn't available, contact Kartra support for assistance.

Troubleshoot unavailable downgrades

If the Downgrade button is disabled, your account may be using features or resources that exceed the limits of the lower plan.

Hover over the disabled button to see what needs to change before you can downgrade.

The following restrictions may apply:

Message

What to do

Remove the extra contacts

Go to Contacts > All contacts and reduce your contact count to the lower plan's limit.

Pro-tip: Start by filtering the contacts based on their engagement.

Remove the extra team members

Open Team members and remove profiles that exceed the lower plan's allowance.

Remove the extra domains

Go to Settings > Domains and disconnect domains until you're within the lower plan's limit.

*

Switch the account to one single language

Go to Settings > Account settings and change your customer-facing language setting from dynamic to fixed.

Remove the Helpdesk from self billing

Go to Sales > Self billing and change refund and cancellation requests to automatic processing, or disable those options.

After resolving the restriction, return to Billing and try the downgrade again.

Important:

Some restrictions may require you to remove existing account resources. Review what you need to keep before deleting contacts, team members, or disconnecting domains.

Frequently asked questions

When will my new subscription plan take effect?

Higher-tier upgrades generally take effect immediately after you complete the payment.

Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing cycle, on your next rebill date.

Will upgrading change my next rebill date?

No. For an immediate upgrade to a higher plan, your regular rebill date stays the same.

Kartra charges the price difference for the remaining days of your current billing cycle, then charges the new plan's regular subscription price on your next rebill date.

Can I switch between monthly and annual billing?

Monthly and annual subscription options are available, but not all billing-frequency changes can be completed through the upgrade or downgrade process.

Check the options available in Billing. If your preferred change isn't available, contact Kartra support.

Can I change my plan if I have an outstanding invoice?

Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade to an eligible plan even if you have an outstanding subscription invoice. The outstanding invoice will be charged when the change takes place.

Why can't I downgrade to a particular plan?

Some lower plans have limits on contacts, team members, domains, and other account resources.

If your account exceeds those limits, the Downgrade button may be disabled. Hover over it to review the applicable restrictions.

You may also find that certain combinations of subscription plan and billing frequency are unavailable. If your preferred change isn't available, contact Kartra support.
