Set up DKIM for KartraMail

Learn how to configure DKIM for your domain when sending emails through KartraMail.

If you use your own domain to send emails through KartraMail, you need to authenticate the domain with DKIM.

Kartra can configure DKIM automatically with supported domain providers. If automatic configuration isn't available for your provider, you can add the required DKIM records manually.

Before you begin

Make sure:

  • You own or control the domain you want to authenticate.

  • You have access to the account where your domain or DNS records are managed.

  • The domain matches the sender address you want to use with KartraMail.

For example, to send from [email protected], you need to authenticate yourbusiness.com.

If you purchased your domain through Kartra, the required authentication may already be configured. Check the domain's authentication status in Settings > Domains > DKIM before making any changes.

Set up DKIM automatically

Automatic setup lets Kartra add the required DKIM records to your domain for you. Use this option when your domain provider supports automatic DKIM configuration.

Follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings > Domains > DKIM, then click + DKIM, and choose Add DKIM record.

  2. Enter the domain you will use to send email (example: yourdomain.com).

  3. If your domain provider is supported, you will see the Automatic configuration option. (If it is not supported, the automatic option is grayed out.)

  4. Select Automatic and click Finish.

  5. Kartra will create the DKIM records for you and begin validation.

Once the setup is complete, check the authentication status in Kartra to confirm that your domain has been successfully authenticated.

If automatic configuration isn't available for your domain provider, use the manual method below.

Set up DKIM manually

Manual setup requires you to add the DKIM records provided by Kartra to your domain's DNS settings.

Use this method when automatic configuration isn't available for your domain provider or when Kartra directs you to configure the records manually.

Step 1: Get your DKIM records from Kartra

  1. Go to Settings > Domains > DKIM, then click + DKIM, and choose Add DKIM record.

  2. Enter the domain you use to send email (example: yourdomain.com).

  3. Choose Manual.

Kartra will display a Host and Points to value for three CNAME records. Keep that window open. You’ll need these values for the next step.

Step 2: Add the CNAME records at your domain host

  1. Log in to your domain registrar or DNS provider.

  2. Go to the section called DNS Settings, DNS Management, or similar. (Exact name varies depending on your provider.)

  3. For the domain you use to send email, create three new CNAME records.

  4. For each record:

    • Host / Name: paste the Host name field from Kartra

    • Points to / Target: paste the Points to field from Kartra

    • TTL: leave as Default or Automatic

Repeat until all three CNAME records have been added.

Important:

Some providers automatically add your domain to the Host field.

  • If your provider adds the domain automatically, enter only the prefix (example: sk48392)

  • If your provider does not add the domain, enter the full value (example: sk48392.yourdomain.com)

If you’re unsure, contact your domain provider for guidance.

Step 3: Confirm your DKIM setup in Kartra

After adding the three CNAME records:

  1. Return to the DKIM details window in Kartra.

  2. Check the confirmation box.

  3. Click Finish.

Your domain will now appear under Settings > Domains > DKIM with a status of Pending validation. Once validation is complete, your entry will show as Connected.

When adding the records, copy the values provided by Kartra exactly. The way DNS records are displayed and entered can vary between domain providers.

Check your DKIM status

After configuring DKIM, Kartra checks the DNS records for your domain.

DNS changes may take some time to become available. If your domain isn't validated immediately, wait for the DNS changes to propagate and check again.

If validation continues to fail after 24h:

  • Confirm that the records in your DNS settings match the values provided by Kartra.

  • Check that each record was added to the correct domain.

  • Make sure your domain provider hasn't automatically added the domain name to a hostname where it wasn't needed.

  • Contact your domain provider if you need help adding or correcting DNS records.

Once the domain is successfully authenticated, you can use sender addresses from that domain with KartraMail.
