KartraMail is Kartra's built-in email delivery service and the default email gateway for every Kartra account. It delivers the Emails, Sequence emails, and Email Notifications you create in Kartra without requiring you to connect a separate email delivery service.
You can use KartraMail on its own or connect supported third-party email delivery services to your account. KartraMail remains your default gateway unless you manually select another configured gateway as the default.
Configure KartraMail
Before you begin
Your send-from and reply-to addresses should be custom business email addresses that use the same domain.
For example:
hello@yourbusiness.com
support@yourbusiness.com
Free email addresses, such as Gmail or Yahoo addresses, are not accepted for this configuration.
Your sending domain should also be authenticated with DKIM for KartraMail. For more information about email authentication and the available setup options, see Email authentication explained.
KartraMail does not provide an inbox. Make sure your reply-to address has a working inbox you can access if you want to receive replies from your contacts.
To configure KartraMail:
Go to Settings > Integrations.
Locate KartraMail and select Edit
Enter your sender information:
Sender name: The name recipients see when they receive your email.
Send-from email: The email address used to send your messages.
Reply-to email: The address that receives replies to your messages.
Test your settings.
Save your changes.
Your initial sender address
When you first open the KartraMail settings, a sender address may already be available. The address you see depends on the email address you used to create your Kartra account.
If you signed up using a business email address, that address may already be configured as your sender.
If you signed up using a free email address, such as Gmail or Yahoo, Kartra provides an @kartra.com placeholder sender address.
You can use the placeholder address temporarily, but it does not have an inbox where you can receive replies.
For regular sending, replace it with a business email address on your own domain and authenticate that domain for KartraMail.
Replace the placeholder address with a business email address on your own domain when you're ready to configure your regular sending setup
Sender warm-up period
If you send emails using the Kartra domain, your account may be subject to a sender warm-up period. During this period, the number of emails you can send is gradually increased:
Warm-up period | Sending limit |
First 2 weeks | 50 emails |
Next 2 weeks | 150 emails |
Following 4 weeks | 800 emails |
If you reach the limit for your current warm-up period, sending pauses until the next period begins.
These warm-up limits apply when sending through a Kartra shared domain. To remove the warm-up limits, authenticate your own custom domain and use it for sending.
Note: Warm-up limits may change as Kartra adjusts its email-sending requirements.
Using additional sender addresses with KartraMail
You don't have to use the sender address saved in your KartraMail settings for every email. Where sender selection is available, you can choose another email address when configuring the message.
Any sender address you use with KartraMail must belong to a domain that is authenticated with DKIM for KartraMail.
For example, if yourbusiness.com is authenticated with DKIM for KartraMail, you can send from addresses such as:
You can also use an address from another domain. Before sending from [email protected], for example, you need to authenticate anotherbrand.com with DKIM for KartraMail.
These requirements apply when using KartraMail. Sender address options and requirements may be different when using a third-party email delivery service.
Using multiple email gateways
KartraMail gives you everything you need to deliver emails from Kartra without connecting another email delivery service. However, if you prefer to use another provider, you can connect a supported third-party email gateway to your account.
Kartra currently supports integrations with:
Each provider has its own setup and authentication requirements. See the relevant integration article before using that gateway to send emails from Kartra.
Choose your default gateway
Your default gateway is the one Kartra automatically selects when you create an email.
Connecting another gateway does not change your existing KartraMail setup. KartraMail remains your default gateway unless you manually select another configured gateway as the default.
For most emails, you can change this selection and use any other gateway configured in your account. This means that setting a default gateway does not require you to use it for every email.
Account-wide Email Notifications are an exception. Notifications always use the gateway currently set as your default.
Regardless of the gateway you select, you continue to create and manage your emails in Kartra. The selected gateway is the service used to deliver them.
