Create or edit an automated sequence in Sequences.

People going through a sequence can “finish” it in one of two ways:

  • By reaching a complete step at the end, or
  • By removal with an unsubscribe action

“Complete” a sequence

Drag a Complete step into a sequence to add it to the end of the automated flow. Activate and connect the step.

Add a complete step to the end of a sequence flow

The complete step allows Kartra to record that the lead has completed a sequence. This is useful if you want to create automations or filters based on whether someone has completed a specific sequence. Ending your sequence with a Complete step is the recommended method for most scenarios.

When a lead reaches the complete step:

  • Their log is updated with an entry that says they completed the sequence (Immediate)
  • Any automations based on “lead completes sequence” are triggered (Immediate)
  • The lead now appears in filters and meets any automation conditions based on “lead has completed sequence”
  • The lead remains subscribed to the sequence but is completely stopped. No new communications or actions are executed for the lead.

Unsubscribe from a sequence

Drag an (Un)subscribe step into a sequence and place it in any position in the flow. Activate and connect the step.

Unsubscribe step in a sequence flow
Above example shows an unsubscribe step as the final stop in a sequence. Notice that the sequence does not "complete." The outgoing connection node for the unsubscribe step does not go anywhere.

The unsubscribe step lets you fully remove someone from this or any other sequence when they reach the step. This is helpful if you want to remove all leads if they do or don’t meet certain criteria. Using an unsubscribe step to end the sequence for all leads (as shown in the example image) is not recommended for most scenarios.

When a lead is unsubscribed:

  • Their log is updated with a sequence unsubscription entry
  • Any automations based on “lead unsubscribes from sequence” are triggered (Immediate)
  • The lead now appears in filters and meets any automation conditions based on “lead is not subscribed to sequence”

Pro tip

Get the best of both options by combining the complete and unsubscribe actions. Add a Complete step to the end of your sequence. Then create an advanced automation rule to unsubscribe leads from your sequence when they complete it:

Example: IF lead completes sequence [NAME] THEN unsubscribe from sequence [NAME]

Automation to unsubscribe a contact when they complete a sequence
