Manually update list subscriptions to handle special requests, fix issues, or fine-tune who gets what—so your messaging stays relevant and your contacts stay happy.

Use manual updates when:

  • A contact asks to join a specific list
  • Someone was removed by mistake
  • A contact doesn’t meet automation rules but still needs updates
  • A list or automation was added after the contact signed up

Key details

  • Contact profile: Add a subscription from the Lists tab in an individual contact’s record.
  • Advanced filters: Quickly find groups of similar contacts by behavior, status, or other conditions.
  • Bulk actions: Update list subscription and more for multiple contacts at once.

How to subscribe contacts to mailing lists

Add one contact

  1. Go to Contacts > All contacts
  2. Search and click the contact’s name
  3. Click the Lists tab
  4. Choose the list you want and click Add
  5. Save the profile

Add multiple contacts in bulk

Use this when contacts share something in common—like a tag, custom field response, or past activity.

  1. Go to Contacts > All contacts.
  2. Click Advanced filters, set your conditions, then click Add
  3. Select all matching contacts by checking the box at the top of the table.
  4. In the top right corner of the contacts table, click the three dots to open the Actions menu.
  5. Select Subscribe (under the Lists section)
  6. Choose your list from the dropdown menu and click Save.

Pro tip

Use filters first to narrow your audience and check to make sure your selection is correct before making bulk updates.
