If you’re on Kartra’s Essentials plan, a small 5% transaction fee applies to each sale or rebill for products you host in Kartra.
When do fees apply?
Transaction fees are billed monthly and only apply to the Essentials plan. Other plans are not affected.
Keep in mind:
Even if your plan is billed annually, transaction fees are invoiced monthly. If a fee payment fails, we’ll try charging it again shortly.
How are my fees calculated?
At the end of each month, Kartra calculates your fees using a formula that accounts for sales and refunds for products in your account during that month:
Transaction fees formula:
[(Sales + Rebills) – (Refunds + Chargebacks + Partial Refunds)] × 5%
Example:
- Sales + Rebills: $1,000
- Refunds, chargebacks, partial refunds: $200
- Net = $800
- 5% fee = $40
If that calculation gives a negative result, you won’t have a fee that month. Instead, the difference will be kept as a credit to reduce future fees.
You can check your total for the current month any time under My payment plans > Transaction fees on your Billing page.
Pro tip
If you process a high volume of sales, upgrading to a plan without transaction fees might save you money in the long run.
Do I still have to pay existing fees if I upgrade?
Yes. Your Kartra subscription payment and your transaction fees are billed separately. Paying for the Essentials plan does not cover your transaction fees.
If you have an outstanding balance, it will be added to your invoice along with the cost of the upgrade. Any adjustment for the unused time on your current Essentials plan will not reduce or remove your transaction fees.
However, no new transaction fees will be charged after you upgrade.
If I refund a transaction I already paid fees for, will I receive my money back?
Yes, but not as a direct refund. Instead, the difference will be added as a credit to reduce your future transaction fees.
Transaction fees credit doesn’t reduce the cost of your regular subscription. Credits can only be applied to future transaction fees.
