Automations work behind the scenes to help your account respond automatically when something happens, so you don’t have to manage every action manually.

They are built on simple logic:

IF something happens, THEN take an action.

For example, Kartra can subscribe someone to a mailing list when they fill out a form, click a link, or buy a product.


Why use automations

Automations connect different features in Kartra. They make sure the right actions are carried out automatically when something changes, without you having to monitor or handle every situation yourself.

They are commonly used to help:

  • Keep contacts organized as people take different actions
  • Make sure the right follow-up happens at the right time
  • Grant or remove access when something changes, such as a purchase or cancellation
  • Guide people down different paths based on what they do (or don’t do)

How automations work

Every automation is made up of two main parts:

  • Triggers: the event that starts the rule
  • Actions: what happens after the trigger fires

You can also add conditions. Conditions act as additional checks, allowing the automation to run only if specific criteria are met.

This structure lets you decide exactly when Kartra should act and what it should do, based on real actions your leads or customers take.


Basic vs. advanced automations

Kartra offers two types of automations: basic and advanced.

  • Basic automations are created as part of setting up a specific asset, such as a form, product, or email. They’re designed for simple, direct actions related to that one item.
  • Advanced automations are created in Marketing > Automations and can work with any asset, including multiple assets of the same type. They’re available on Growth and higher plans.
