Learn how Kartra creates the links for your membership site, what each part of the URL means, and how your login page shapes the structure of all your membership content.
Every membership site you create in Kartra includes a default login page. Kartra automatically generates a unique URL for it.
The URL generated for your default login page is made up of the following parts:
- Account subdomain: yourusername.kartra.com
- Membership-specific directory: /portal
- Membership subdirectory name: a unique alphanumeric ID (for example, /abcd1234)
Default URL example: yourusername.kartra.com/portal/abcd1234
This login URL is the main access point for your members. If your membership doesn’t require login credentials, this URL will instead take users directly to the membership’s home page.
Default login pages shape all links in the membership
Your membership’s default login page URL is the starting point for every other link inside that membership.
Each additional section (such as a post or subcategory) builds on that base link by adding a small extension to the end.
- Post URL example: yourusername.kartra.com/portal/abcd1234/post/123
- Subcategory URL example: yourusername.kartra.com/portal/abcd1234/subcategory/123
At this time, these links can’t include the actual name of the post or subcategory.
Kartra gives each one a number automatically to keep your internal links consistent and working even if you later rename posts.
Can I customize my membership links?
Yes! You can personalize your membership URLs in two main ways:
- Replace your Kartra subdomain (yourusername.kartra.com) with your own domain or subdomain, as long as it’s connected to your Kartra account. Learn how to connect your domain to Kartra.
- Rename your membership subdirectory (“abcd1234” in our example) to something meaningful, such as your course or program name.

Can I use a custom Kartra Page as my Login page?
Absolutely! You can replace your membership’s default login page with a custom page you’ve created in Kartra.
For this you need to:
- Create and publish a custom login page in Kartra Pages.
- Assign that page as the membership’s login page.
Once a custom page is assigned, Kartra automatically includes that page’s link in your members’ welcome emails instead of the default one.

To make sure your entire membership reflects your chosen domain, confirm that the default login page’s domain matches that domain.
