Tags are internal labels that help you organize your contacts and add flexibility to your email and automation strategies. You can assign tags automatically based on a contact’s activities or manually for any reason you choose.
Tags are private—only you and your team can see them, not your contacts.
Example of tags designed to track billing status:
Tip: Click the number in the "leads tagged" column to see all contacts who have the tag.
Using tags
There are many ways to add tags to your leads:
- During a batch lead import
- Based on a form submission or other interaction with your content
- One at a time in an individual lead profile
- With an automation rule
Tags are used as a segmentation condition in many contexts:
- As a trigger or condition for an automation rule
- To define the recipients for an email
- As a split condition in an automated sequence flow
- etc
Tags refine any business strategy
Create tags based on any activity, condition, or behavior you want to track. Tags are highly flexible tools that can really sharpen your campaigns. For example, you can automatically add tags to:
- Segment high-value contacts, making it easier to focus on your top audience.
- Flag customers who request a refund so you can tailor follow-up actions.
- Track engagement, like tagging someone who watches a video all the way through.
You can also add tags manually. Use them to note things like a contact's interest level after a sales call or to give a prospective customer temporary access to a course. Tags let you personalize your approach and keep your contacts organized.
